General

The Willochra Home Residential Aged Care Facility is situated in the mid-northern country town of Crystal Brook which is 200 kilometres from Adelaide.  This area is well known for its country-style of living and is only 2 hours from Adelaide.  The facility provides both low and high level care, having 28 beds and is licensed by the Commonwealth Government – the Anglican Diocese of Willochra being the Approved Provider.
When Bishop Jones came to the Diocese in 1958 he found that Bishop Thomas had planned for a Home for the Aged.  The Synod of 1960 approved the plan and in April 1964 the Home was opened by the then minister for works Mr Pearson.  The Home cost $42,000.00 of which one third was raised by the Diocese and the remainder given by the Federal Government.
Work began on upgrading the bathroom facilities and 4 more rooms at a cost of $200,000 in late 1992.  The completed extensions were dedicated by the Right Reverend David McCall, Bishop of Willochra on 18 April 1993.
The addition of 3 rooms in a secure area with landscaped garden,  extensions to the existing dining room and a resident’s kitchen were blessed by Bishop David McCall on 4 July 1999.
An additional 10 rooms, dining and lounge room, an industrial laundry and major upgrade to the kitchen at a cost exceeding 2 million dollars, was completed in May 2006.
Our home is currently undergoing renovations once again which plans to extend by 6 more rooms and a chapel, a new front entrance and office, and an upgrade to the hairdressing salon, and a bit of cosmetic surgery in the form of coverings for the brickwork walls.

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide quality residential care which protects and promotes the health and wellbeing of the residents of the Willochra home in accordance with
· Christian Principles and traditional values, and
· Commonwealth aged care standards
We aim to contribute to the quality of life and to achieve the best possible health for all our residents within our care.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We aim to achieve our Philosophy of care by creating at The Willochra Home a happy, informal, friendly environment.
This can only be achieved as Residents, Staff, Volunteers and the Board of Management work together to meet the needs of all whom reside at the Home.
In doing so, they support each other in accepting the things that cannot be changed, encourage each other to change the things that can be changed, and seek the wisdom to know the difference.

OBJECTIVES

To provide citizens with accommodation, facilities and services in a manner which:
· Promotes dignity in their lives.
· Encourages good family relationships, companionship and promotes inter-personal relationships
· Promotes an awareness of the value of aged people.
· Caters for short and long term needs.
· Staff work together to provide optimal services for residents using specialised knowledge of the aged.
· Promotes a supportive environment for staff in which they can function fully as role models, teachers and mentors.

ACCOMMODATION

Willochra Home has 28 single rooms with ensuites.  Each room has built-in robes and dressing-table with drawers and a bed.
A resident may like to add personal possessions such as an easy chair, TV or photographs.  A resident may choose to bring their own single-bed rather than the one supplied.  All electrical equipment brought into the home has to be checked by our maintenance person.
There are a number of sitting areas, communal lounges, covered verandahs and outdoor areas which provide a wide choice for residents to enjoy.
A call bell is available to contact staff from bedside, in the bathroom and lounges.

COMPLAINTS, CONCERNS ETC.

Any concern which a resident may have will normally be attended to by the appropriate staff in the immediate area.
If this action does not resolve the problem the resident may contact:
