The Year of Mark - Seminar

This is to be held on Saturday, 25^th October 2008 at the Port Pirie Cathedral Hall from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Dr Vicki Balabanski, Senior Lecturer in New Testament Studies at the Adelaide College of Divinity, will lead the seminar in preparation for the next Liturgical Year. Her areas of teaching include The Synoptic Gospels, Johannine Literature, New Testament Backgrounds, New Testament Greek, Ecology and the Bible. She is soon to publish "Mark as storyteller and artist, in Seasons of the Spirit" Vicki has previously led seminars in New Testament for the Anglican-Uniting Regional Council which sponsors this annual seminar. Please encourage all licensed lay ministers to attend, but note it is open to anyone interested in learning more about St Mark's Gospel. If you know of anyone from another denomination who wishes to attend, they are very welcome. There is a fee of $10:00, which includes hand-outs and morning tea.

There has been some confusion about the correct date for the forthcoming Clergy Conference to be held in September 2008. Unfortunately to add to this confusion the WRONG DATE has inadvertently been included in the August Issue of The Willochran. The CORRECT DATE FOR THE CLERGY CONFERENCE FOR 2008 IS FROM THE EVENING OF SUNDAY, 14^TH SEPTEMBER UNTIL LUNCH TIME ON TUESDAY 16^TH SEPTEMBER.

After publication - orders will only be possible through bookshops.

The Bonhoeffer Conference.

If you are interested, there is a conference being jointly organized by the University of Newcastle and the Diocese of Newcastle with the theme, “A Cautious Embrace” – a Christian-Jewish Conference reflecting on the discipleship and legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This is held to commemorate the 75^th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

Ordination Date

The Bishop has tentatively set the date of 20^th September 2008, which is a Saturday morning, for the Ordination to the Priesthood of the Reverend Anne Ford and the Reverend Gail Hardy; and the Admission to the Diaconate of Mrs Joan Reed. The Ordination will take place at the Cathedral in Port Pirie at 11:00am. The Bishop hopes you will plan to be present.
