Today
we celebrate the 135th anniversary of the material building of St.
John's Church
in Laura - the first Church of England (now Anglican Church) services
having been held initially in 1873 in Laura's first stone building - the
Laura Hotel, now the Laura Soap Shoppe - and subsequently in a private
residence. The
foundation stone of the present church was laid on 16th August, 1875,
and in 1883 the chancel and the bell tower were added to the original
building which is now the nave. |
