Mount Ive Station, Gawler Ranges   20-25 September 2010

God gets explosive

Come and savour the deep, rich reds and the amazing sculpted and jointed forms of the old volcanic rocks of the Gawler Ranges. Formed by one of the largest outpourings of lava on the surface of the earth and covering an area of 25,000Km2, the ranges had their beginning about 1500 million years ago. Be dazzled by the salty white brilliance of massive Lake Gairdner, one of the largest of the many desert salt lakes found in South Australia. Share in some of the history of this ancient weathered environment with its low acacia-covered, rounded and heavily jointed hills.
