The
Rev’d Gail Hardy was
ordained deacon on Friday 13 April at
Christ
Church
, Kadina in the Parish of The Copper Coast in the presence of about 100
people. Bishop Garry Weatherill presided and preached on God’s love. The
service was very joyful. The gospel reading about the miraculous netful of
fish pulled in at the resurrected Lord’s command provided the theme for
the decorations in the Church which included a net draping from the altar
and a dinghy in the back of the Church. A quartet providing music and the
singing of the psalm by the parish priest, The Rev’d Prue O’Donovan
and the robust singing of the congregation added to the joy of the
service. Friends and relatives traveled from
Adelaide
and from parishes where Gail has previously resided. The celebratory
supper was, of course, something to behold and several speeches of welcome
and congratulations were made.

| Bishop Garry Weatheril
ordained The Rev’d Anne Ford
deacon on Saturday 14 April at St Benedict’s, Minlaton which is a
ministering community in the Ministry District of Lower York
Peninsula
. About 100 people filled the church, again friends and relatives added to
the congregation and the newest deacon assisted at the Eucharist. The
lusty singing was accompanied by Anne’s husband, Michael; the Bishop
preached on the freedom gained in commitment, the incense used at
the Eucharist added to the worshipful atmosphere and a dragon-fly, a
symbol of transformation, unexpectedly fluttered over Anne’s head, as
the Bishop’s hands were laid on her and the Spirit was invoked. The
“cream-cake country people” of Minlaton provided another feast for the
gathering afterwards, another diocesan occasion of joy and good wishes. |
