Wirrabara says Farewell

On 12th March more than 40 people, from the Ministry District and from other churches and the community in Wirrabara, swelled the regular congregation of St Margaret’s for a special farewell for Ian and Val Seaman and to give thanks for their ministry among us. Among the visitors we were pleased to welcome Bishop Garry, who preached, The Rev’d Janelle (MD priest) and David Shephard. The service incorporated an opportunity for Val and Ian to reflect on their time with us and prayers for those leaving the those staying behind. Bp Garry, Ron Sizer (Warden) Ruth Francis (Uniting Church) and The Rev’d Janelle thanked them for their tireless efforts and wished them well. A group of singers came forward and surrounded Ian and Val to sing a farewell before the service continued with the Peace and the Holy Communion.
Ian and Val have been much loved and valued members of the whole community as well as St Margaret’s — Ian for all his life, having been born in the family home at Wongyarra, and Val all their married life. Both have given their utmost in time, energy and skills in the many organisations and groups they have worked with. We at St Margaret’s feel a bit like a ship that is losing its rudder and mainsail all at once. Then we realise that Jesus is our rudder, our mainsail, and our anchor and pilot and he has promised never to leave us. So, with him at the helm our ship will move on. And we know that he will be with Val and Ian guiding them in their new life in the city.

We wish them God’s peace and blessing and look forward to visits from them from time to time. — Heather Sizer.
